- Adopt, Rehome, Rediscover -

Welcome to the Invert Rehoming & Adoption Section

At The Insect Shop, we believe that no bug should be left without a home, and through our rehoming and adoption programs, we provide a second chance for invertebrates in need of loving care.

- Bugs For Adoption -

We understand there may be many reasons to rehome a pet,

1. Moving House

3. Financially Expensive

2. Personal Reasons

Relocating can often mean leaving your beloved pets behind. Whether due to rental restrictions or the challenges of transporting delicate creatures, rehoming may be the best choice to ensure they find a safe and suitable environment.

2. Personal Reasons

3. Financially Expensive

2. Personal Reasons

Life changes can lead to unforeseen circumstances, such as health issues or shifts in family dynamics. When personal challenges arise, rehoming a pet can prioritize their well-being by finding them a nurturing new home.

3. Financially Expensive

4. Can No Longer Care For

Pet care costs can accumulate quickly. If the financial burden of providing for your invertebrate becomes overwhelming, rehoming can be a responsible choice, ensuring they receive the care they deserve in a more suitable environment.

4. Can No Longer Care For

5. More Work Than We Realised

4. Can No Longer Care For

Responsibilities can shift, making it difficult to provide the necessary care for your pet. Recognizing when you can no longer meet their needs is important, and rehoming can ensure they receive the attention and care they require.

5. More Work Than We Realised

5. More Work Than We Realised

Invertebrates may require more commitment than initially expected. If you find their care to be more demanding, rehoming allows you to find someone better prepared to meet those needs, leading to a happier life for both you and your pet.

What usually happens to unwanted inverts?

Out in the wild, or worse..

Many unwanted invertebrates are often released into the wild by owners who assume they can thrive in a natural environment. Unfortunately, these animals are rarely equipped to cope with the challenges they face outside of captivity. Invertebrates that have been raised in controlled environments may lack the instincts and survival skills needed to find food, shelter, and avoid predators, leading to their eventual demise.

In addition to releasing them into the wild, some people resort to methods such as euthanizing the animals or attempting to sell or rehome them through online marketplaces and social media. Others may neglect the invertebrates, leaving them in inadequate enclosures without proper care, which also leads to their suffering or death.

Please reach out to us if you, or someone you know can no longer care for inverts of any kind, and give these little guys the opportunity for a new home where they can continue to live and thrive like they deserve.

What Happens when we take in Pre-loved pets?

1. Pick up

2. Assessment

2. Assessment

When people can’t care for their invertebrates anymore, I step in to personally pick them up or provide proper shipping instructions for interstate rehoming, ensuring they are safely and responsibly handled.

2. Assessment

After picking up the inverts, I carefully assess their health, checking for signs of stress, injury, or illness.

If they require special care but are rehomable, they are featured in the Bug Hospital section, where I provide them with the attention they need before finding them a suitable new home.

3. A New Home

I am dedicated to finding pre-loved bugs a new home where they can thrive. I work closely with potential adopters to ensure they understand the specific care needs of each invertebrate. By providing detailed information and support, I help match the right creatures with responsible owners, ensuring that these invertebrates continue to receive the care and attention they deserve in their new environments.
